New BCU head football coach Ed Reed apologizes after he trashes school on social media – Yahoo News

Bethune Cookman University’s new head football coach is apologizing for his critiques of the school.
NFL Hall of Fame safety Ed Reed made the comments on Sunday while live streaming on Instagram.
Reed made big news last month when he verbally accepted BCU’s football head coaching job.

In his first live stream, you can see Reed driving around campus while criticizing the working, playing and training conditions at the school.
“That building over there has trash in it. It is f***king trash,” Reed said. “I’ve been here for a week and a half and have done more than what some people have done in years, and I’m not even hired yet.”
“All HBCUs need help and they need help because of the people running it,” Reed added “There’s a broken mentality.”

Reed immediately got backlash on social media for his post but doubled down with a second heated rant.
“All this s**t in front of me was trash. Who do you think got this s**t cleared out,” Reed said.
Channel 9 spoke with some BCU students whom all shared the same point of view about what he said.

“I was shocked. I’m not going to lie,” said student Tatiana Elliiot.
“I’m not mad at him. He said it from the heart. Most of the stuff he said was true so,” said student Dewayne Whitfield.
On Monday Reed said apologized, tweeting in part, “I would like to sincerely apologize to all BCU staff, students and alumni for my lack of professionalism. My language and tone were unacceptable as a father, coach and leader.”

Although Reed has accepted the job as head coach for the Wildcats he has not been formally introduced.
