The newest reimagining of the classic Victorian novel Vanity Fair is starting on ITV tonight (Sunday, September 2).
Starring newcomer Olivia Cooke as lead character Becky Sharp, fans of a good period drama are set to enjoy this series.
Co-produced by both ITV and Amazon Studios, the mini-series is set to air weekly.
A description from ITV for the series reads: “In a world where everyone is striving for what is not worth having, no-one is more determined to climb to the heights of English Society than Miss Rebecca Sharp.“
ITV and Amazon Studios have teamed up on this production of Vanity Fair.
The series is jointly produced by Amazon and ITV’s Mammoth Studios, which is the company behind the popular series Victoria.
Episode one is airing on ITV tonight (September 2) at 9pm.
The second instalment will be airing tomorrow, Monday, September 3 at the same time.
Episodes will continue to air weekly on Sunday nights after that.
HOW MANY EPISODES ARE IN VANITY FAIR ON ITV?New episodes will be added to the ITV Hub shortly after their initial broadcast in the UK.
Internationally, episodes will be added to Amazon Prime Video.
So viewers will be able to stream from the service as new episodes are added weekly.
Speaking about the collaboration between ITV and Amazon, ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill said: “Vanity Fair is the perfect classic to adapt for ITV, and Gwyneth Hughes’ stunning scripts bring the novel to life in a way that will really connect with a modern audience.”
There are seven episodes in total in this version of the William Makepeace Thackeray classic.
WHERE IS VANITY FAIR FILMED AND SET?The synopsis from ITV reads: “Gwyneth Hughes’ adaptation of Thackeray’s literary classic is set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars, and follows Becky Sharp as she attempts to claw her way out of poverty and scale the heights of English Society.
“Her story of ‘villainy, crime, merriment, lovemaking, jilting, laughing, cheating, fighting and dancing’, takes her all the way to the court of King George IV, via the Battle of Waterloo, breaking hearts and losing fortunes as she goes.”
Each episode starts with the author Thackeray (played by Michael Palin) introducing the instalment – reflecting the unreliable narrator that features in the original novel.

Doctor Foster actress Suranne Jones stars as Chiswick Hall head teacher Miss Pinkerton.
Johnny Flynn stars as Becky’s best friend William Dobbin and Claudia Jessie plays her other friend Amelia Sedley.
Other cast members include Charlie Rowe as George Osborne, Martin Clunes as Sir Pitt Crawley and Frances de la Tour as Miss Matilda Crawley.
